Miss America Contestants
Congrats to Alyssa Campanella, Alexis Swanstrom, Brittany Brannon, Molly Argue, Angela Sparrow, Paige Higgerson, Brandi Schoenberg & Audra Mari!!!
Eight new titleholders in four states were crowned today: (click names in bold to view their profiles, teen profiles will be up tomorrow)
Alyssa is the first Miss Teen USA 1RU to win a state title since Gloria Almonte represented New York at Miss USA 2007. In what I'm sure is a first Alyssa and her teen predecessor Julianna White (now Miss NJ USA 11) will compete against each other at Miss USA this year. Alyssa is the second teen to win in a different state this year, off the top of my head I reckon it's been over ten years since two Miss Teen USA delegates won Miss titles in different states. Whilst the top five might have been said to be predictable what I was not expecting was that the final three would come down to the three former Teen titleholders, Alyssa, Katie Blair and Lindsey Sporrer.
Alyssa was not the only former 1st runner-up (NJ 09) to win today, both Brittany Brannon (Miss AZ USA) & Angela Swan (Miss IL USA) were 1RU last year in their respective pageants. Brittany is another huge favourite of mine, it was awesome to see her and Alyssa win within hours of each other!
As for the Teens this year, three of today's winning teens bucked the 2011 trend as they are all former runners-up. Alexis Swanstrom was 1RU in Cali last year & 2RU in 2009, Paige Higgerson (Illinois) was 4RU last year & 3RU in 2009 and Molly Argue (Arizona) was 2RU last year.
Not much has come to light about ND thus far, however Brandi was a non-finalist and Miss Photogenic winner last year.
