MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS ALBANIA | Emanuela Guri

Albania
Emanuela Guri

Age: 23

Height: 170 cm.

Weight: 52 kg.

Measurements: 86-63-93

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

I would like to create an association with the name "protect the environment, live longer" would like to make the design of a new legal basis to change the existing one to adopt in full all the principles of environmental protection, land and to create the necessary legal basis for the full transposition of directives later to protect the environment from pollution, including the directive "on integrated prevention and control of pollution", that "on the large combustion plants", that "for environmental responsibilities "and the directive" On the control of major accidents ", which include dangerously substances if we have a clean environment, live a healthy life.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I feel proud of my country because we have survived! And a nation that survives on three thousand years through heavy occupations, and this gives us more great spiritual values! makes me proud of the fact that we are not against the persecutors but we are showing civilization. I am that we live in a land blessed with natural beauty and exceptional climate. I am proud because we have fine traditions, special, rich. I am because we are the noblest people in this selfish world. I am because we have given our precious contribution throughout our history. We've all been in the top elite of empires which passed through Europe or the Balkan Peninsula. Figures for the life I gave judgment and European hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg. Because we were the first to create the idea of the nation in the Balkans.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I had a very happy childhood, with a wonderful family with my two sister's, We loved always going in the school together and when we made trouble sometimes we loved that always near us was my wonderful mother and special father that He is not with us anymore, but He keep looking for us from the Heaven. We were always together.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

I learned from this age that it is not important what you have in life, but who is near you.

What is your most memorable moment?

Difficult to memorize a moment as they are numerous in everybody's life My only time in my life was a day argued with the little sister, and i called the police to intimidate, and since then remained a legend "you will receive the police again". I also introduce programs for children from age 10 years who was a beautiful period, I was small but i felt like a big girl.

What is your environmental advocacy?

To stop forest and rivers destruction as it is degrading the environment, importance of having as many trees in our city's as they are so invaluable to our existence and I think that with many trees our city's will make them look lovely to all of us.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS AUSTRALIA - Deedre Zibara's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS AUSTRALIA | Deedre Zibara

Australia
Deedee Zibara

Age: 20

Height: 178 cm.

Weight: 65 kg.

Measurements: 89-63-90

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

I hope to incorporate solar, wind and water powered transport and business operations into a global constitution, where it is mandatory for all countries to power their everyday transport and business operations by sustainable energy rather than carbon emitting fossil fuels. Using sustainable energies will ensure our children and children’s children their welfare, safety and longevity during their lifetime.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

Australia’s robust economy is a strong representation of our triumph of excellence. The implementation of our recent Carbon Tax demonstrates Australia’s forewarding thinking and concern for the environment. I am proud to come from a country that is democratic and that considers what is best for its people and best for its home. Australia is blessed with the most beautiful beaches and way of life. I will promote my country top to toe each day, as I am supported by Australian made and owned Swimwear, Gym wear, Makeup, Skincare and Accessories. I can promote the most prominent issues in Australia at the moment such as the Great Barrier Reef situation and the Carbon Tax. I wish to promote the amazing tourist attractions available in Australia – we have so much to offer and all of these destinations have something so diverse on offer.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I was very blessed to have a large family. Although there were hard days, my family has grown very strong and close. I remember large family barbeques on Sunday afternoons, and birthday dinners galore. I was a very happy, enthusiastic child and insisted on doing every extra-curricular activity I could. I would do Tae Kwon Do 3 days a week, play regular Netball competitions every Saturday, have State Representative Netball carnivals on Sundays and fitness training every other day of the week! Plus I loved school with a passion and excelled in my academic studies. Thank goodness I had such supportive parents or I wouldn’t have the drive I do today to succeed.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

That anything is possible – you just want to have to do it enough. My Mum and Dad used to laugh because everyday I would want to be something different – a Psychologist one day, an actress the next and a Ballerina at one point too!! But what I learnt is that everything is worth trying and you should never underestimate the power of one human – or what the human race can achieve together for that matter.

What is your most memorable moment?

That would have to be the day my parents separated. While it was a sad time at the time, it has been a blessing in disguise and many lessons have been learnt from this experience. One is that life does not always turn out as we expected. Two, is that everything happens for a reason. Three, is that we can change our own destiny at any point in our lives. My family is happier and stronger than ever, and we still are altogether for numerous family occasions. We are all blessed to be happy and healthy.

What is your environmental advocacy?

I have many environmental advocacies. I am first supporting carbon caps, and initiatives by governments like Australia’s Carbon Tax. Secondly I am promoting awareness about World Heritage Areas in Australia’s state of Queensland. Deforestation, fossil-fuel energy expenditure, food waste, land infill, pollution of our waters, endangered species are also other topics I feel passionate about.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS AUSTRIA - Lisa Hanakamp's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS AUSTRIA | Lisa Hanakamp

Austria
Elisabeth Hanakamp

Age: 20

Height: 173 cm.

Weight: 53 kg.

Measurements: 89-62-91

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

I think the most important thing to do is to change the way of thinking. It has to start at the normal households. The waste of the everyday life must be separated, old heater installations must be renewed to be more energy-saving, no more plastic bags in supermarkets, cheaper public transport for less cars on our streets, and I could go on like this for hours. Everybody has to think about his way of living and how it affects our economy.
I want to go to schools and kindergartens to create project with the kids. Children must learn from the beginning on to treat nature good and to live in an appropriate way. I will promote a whole new subject at school, human ecology.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I am very proud to be Austrian. Austria is, compared to other countries, a very representable and ecologically sound country. We have no nuclear power station but renewable energy and our landscape is unmatchable. I grew up in a town near our capital Vienna and even in a big city like Vienna there are lots of green places. There are more green places than area covered with buildings. In the last centuries, six national parks and many nature parks were built. At the moment I am very happy that in our country environmental protection begins to be kind of "in". It is like a trend, in many commercials, companies advertise with products that don't affect the environment. Of course Austria is not perfect but if there will be new possibilities for environmental protection Austria will be one of the first countries who implements them.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I grew up in a beautiful town near Vienna and I lived with my parents and two siblings in a house with big garden. I learned very soon to handle with responsibility because I often looked after my little brother and sister. After three years of kindergarten and six years of elementary school I went to grammar school. Throughout these years I had many hobbies. Next to dancing, climbing, ice skating, drawing and football, I loved singing with the school choir. The choir visited retirement homes and sang for them at Christmas and other occasions. I always was kind of a little rebel. I tried never to swim with the crowed, but had always the need to help where I could.
After I made my school leaving examinations I started studying to become a teacher of English and nutrition for grammar school. Next to my studies I worked as a swim teacher for small children and as a Model.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

Since I can remember my parents always tried to teach me modesty and an awareness for the environment. It was never acceptable to go by car if you could also take the bike. We almost always took the train to go to holiday because the plains pollute the air that much.
My parents both love the nature and so do I. Spending time in the garden with my animals impressed my childhood a lot. We had ducks and chickens, I cared for my rabbits and cats and it helped me to learn what responsibility meant. Though we lived in the city we had a huge garden with apple trees and vegetable patches. To harvest from the own garden was great, and healthy. My family often went hiking and especially when my siblings and I were small we spent most of the time outside. It was our second living room. In the garden we experienced many adventures. Sleeping in the tent was so exiting and cooking a soup over the bonfire with things of the garden made my mum really nervous.
Not just mum and dad, but also my grandparents gave me a lot of awareness for all different things. My grandmother learned me how to cook and how to use just the fruits and vegetables who had season. It is not necessary to eat for example apples from Italy if Austria itself has great apples. And of course we always take our own bags of fabric with us when we by food because those plastic bags are very unnecessary and there is enough waste in the world.
We are no vegetarians, but my mum often buys the meat directly from the farmer because there you know those animals had a good life and you don't support the big industry where animals are held in small cages and get feed up. I always loved it when my parents and I go to the small villages and buy food from the little farms.

What is your most memorable moment?

One day I drove home with a friend by car when I suddenly saw that another car drove into a tree. We were the first at the accident place and we helped of course. We helped them out of the car and gave them blankets. They had injuries but I stayed calm, not like I would have expected. The people from the accident were so thankful and that moment stayed in my memories for ever. I always get deeply touched when I see people helping each other in hard situations.

What is your environmental advocacy?

At the moment I am very happy that in our country environmental protection begins to be kind of "in". It is like a trend. In many commercials companies advertise with products that don't affect the environment. I want also to care for the small organic farmers, to promote them and to make more people buy the organic food. People especially have to buy those vegetables and fruits out of the own country. That is something I think is very important.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS BAHAMAS - Kerel Razil Pinder 's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS BAHAMAS | Kerel Razil Pinder

Bahamas
Kerel Pinder

Age: 26

Height: 174 cm.

Weight: 55 kg.

Measurements: 81-60-86

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

I hope to go into the schools and establish a connection with our students enrolled in our Marine life programs to form a group that aims to bring awareness and help in the fight against overfishing and water pollution. The preservation of our marine life and ecosystem is very important to our country's tourism and livelihood. I plan to also continue to work with organizations like the Bahamas National Trust in the fight towards Marine Conservation.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

A true island girl at heart, I grew up on the island of Grand Bahama, this city is not as fast paced as the Capital New Providence but it was just right for me. The people of the Bahamas, in general, are relaxed, friendly and hardworking. We as a people never let the status of being a 3rd world country hold us back from devoting our lives and livelihood to excellence. The Bahamas may be small in size, but the people of this nation have a determination that allows us to make an extra effort to leave our mark wherever we go. I am a young Bahamian woman who also had a lot of goals and refused to let the idea of being from a "small island" keep me from reaching my BIG dreams. I represent a people of dreamers and fighters and that's why I am so proud to have this opportunity!
The Bahamas is so unique because it's made up of many different islands, each that have their own culture. You can go to many countries and experience there the sun, sand and sea, but only in the Bahamas can you visit Grand Bahama for a laid back experience, Nassau for an exciting night life you will never forget, Harbor island for its beautiful pink sand beaches or even Eleuthera to visit there Glass Window Bridge. You can come to one country and have a hundred different unique experiences. This is what I feel most people would love if they took the opportunity to visit the lovely islands of the Bahamas.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I grew up in a Christian home and one of the principles that I was always taught is that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I have learned to acknowledge his strength everyday and thank him constantly for his blessings.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years? ?

I was taught to always believe in myself and to never be afraid to dream and not only dream but to dream BIG!! If it wasn’t for these lessons I would have never had the awesome opportunity to represent my country internationally and a platform to educate other young girls that they can be anything that they want to be!

What is your environmental advocacy?

My environmental advocacy is Marine Conservation. I chose this timely issue because growing up as a competitive swimmer, the proper care of the ocean and its marine life has always been a concern of mine. Also, being from a country that is completely surrounded by water, the preservation of our marine life and ecosystem is very important to our country’s tourism and livelihood. I chose to advocate for the protection of our coral reefs, wetlands, marine ecosystems and marine life in general.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 - MISS BELIZE - Kimberly Robateau's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS BELIZE | Kimberly Robateau

Belize
Kimberly Robateau

Age: 22

Height: 176 cm.

Weight: 53 kg.

Measurements: 81-66-92

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

Garbage disposal is a growing environmental problem affecting Belize and the world. To help alleviate this situation, I would implement a recycling program focusing on all areas of society, that is home, school and business and educate Belizeans on the benefits of recycling; the main reason being waste management. Currently only plastic bottles are recycled in Belize and even so this is not done on a large scale. If we can encourage each citizen to recycle: paper, plastic, glass, and metal we will reduce waste and make Mother Earth a little bit cleaner, one country at a time.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

In promoting Belize, I will focus on the fact that we can offer a range of diverse tourism related activities within a 24 hour period. Such custom designed can cover interest in areas of marine life, Rain Forest, flora and fauna, history and culture, archeology and adventure to name a few. Our wealth of natural resources combined with our geographical size and make-up are the main contributing factors in making this possible. Hence, I can proudly boast of our great Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world, our Blue Hole, a world class destination for recreational divers. Mayan Ruins, rich Rain Forest, untapped ecological systems, hundreds of Cayes, and of course our blend of diverse ethnic cultures and warm friendly people; all this can be experience in one day.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

My childhood years were very adventurous. My memories include adventurous times on the seashore catching crabs and sea turtles. My family traveled quite frequently into the countryside as well, and my memories are filled with the brilliant colors of farm life, with beautiful floras, agile reptiles and birds and of course the tranquil sound of the surrounding environment. Even though I come from a family where love abounded to the point where I felt overprotected, looking back I now realize that as a child I was still given opportunity to explore and experience the world in a protective setting. My childhood years were filled with fun activities such as camp life, family travel, spiritual empowerment and love.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

One of the most powerful lessons I learnt from my childhood years is to be appreciative of what we have despite how limited it may be. There is a saying which my grandfather constantly reiterate to us that “ whenever you complain about not having a suitable shoe to wear, you must remember there’s people who do not have feet to wear a shoe” As the bible says, “In all things we should give thanks.” Another important lesson which was instilled in me is that we should never forget our roots; where we come from. This is important for me in many ways. I come from a family of humble upbringing and abundance of love, respect for others and support of extended family. I learn that someone always has it worst than I do.

What is your most memorable moment?

I can recall as a child, I was about six years old, when I went with my family on a fishing trip to Moho; one of Belize’s many small uninhabited cayes off the shore of the mainland. We were swimming when a school of dolphins came in close proximity to where we were. I can still recall vividly the excitement of such an awesome experience. Looking back now, I realize just how truly blessed we are in Belize.

What is your environmental advocacy?

My environmental advocacy is to remain an active steward of the environment by advocating with governments to include an Environmental Studies program in their educational curriculum at the primary level of education.
This can have a positive effect on citizens by indirectly encouraging them to play an active role in preserving the environment. Such roles and responsibilities will include a continuous awareness campaign. Having Environmental Studies as a subject from early childhood at an educational level is important because children live what they learn and for change to take effect it is important that it is practices in the everyday-day lives of each citizen. Generally, the importance of environmental issues is mostly linked to the forefront of tourism, at the tertiary level of education and to a handful of Environmental Agencies. By doing this we will not only enhance our knowledge, but we will become proud citizens by promoting and preserving our environment for generations to come.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA | Aleksandra Kovacevic's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA | Aleksandra Kovacevic

Bosnia and Herzegovina
Aleksandra Kovacevic

Age: 23

Height: 175 cm.

Weight: 53 kg.

Measurements: 81 - 58 - 82

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

As the Bosnian representative in the Miss Earth pageant, I will start an afforestation project to undo the damage and prevent the further impoverishment of Bosnia's most important asset. I believe I have the necessary knowledge and experience, which, combined with the recent media attention and public interest, is the key for the project's success. This way, people will be able to learn more about the importance of natural resources and the ways to protect them.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

Bosnia and Herzegovina is considered to be a country of diversity. There are not many countries where you can see so many different cultures and customs which not only contrast, but also complement each other. I have witnessed numerous occasions when people advocating different, almost opposing standpoints decided to work together in order to resolve a problem. Bosnian people, different as they may be, are a positive example of tolerance and forgiveness, making Bosnia and Herzegovina a fertile ground for tolerance and togetherness. Other than its people, I have to mention the breathtaking Bosnian landscape: be it fairytale sunsets, picturesque landscapes or amazing architecture with Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian influences. This only emphasizes the unison of people and nature, as well as the pureness and intactness of the latter. I can honestly say that I'm proud and thankful I was given the chance to grow up in an environment that enabled me to learn so much about respecting other people and nature, an environment which has, and continues to attract and amaze so many tourists, as well as the local people.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I grew up in Sarajevo, surrounded by my friends and family. Even though I am the only child, I can hardly remember a day spent without one of my friends or cousins coming over. I remember spending the weekdays playing with my friends and cousins in the backyard after school, and the weekends going to the countryside with my parents. I took dance lessons and participated in different extracurricular activities, so my visits to my grandparents were very enjoyable, but also extremely educational.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

My mother is my greatest inspiration. She taught me that family and friends are the most important support one could have, but also that hard work and perseverance always pay off at the end. One of the most important lessons I have learned growing up is also not to take things for granted. Occasional shortage of water or electricity only made me realize that our natural resources are not endless, and that we should try to give back as much as possible.

What is your environmental advocacy?

In my humble opinion, Bosnian resources are practically boundless, which makes people take it for granted. The most important thing we have to do is raise the awareness and point out the existing problems. We are witnessing the increase in concentration of air pollution, forest destruction and mindless exploitation of water resources, which are proving to be worse than we thought. The only way to repair and prevent further damage is to educate people on how they can help by thinking globally and acting locally. On the global level, the major concern is the bee extinction. Billions of bees worldwide have died since 2006 and scientists believe that this is happening because of the excessive usage of pesticides which make bees prone to diseases. Bees are a critical part of the food chain because the plants depend on bees for pollination. Albert Einstein once said “If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.”

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS BRAZIL - Driely Bennettone's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS BRAZIL | Driely Bennettone

Brazil
Drielly Bennettone

Age: 22

Height: 184 cm.

Weight: 59 kg.

Measurements: 90-64-94

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

My project consists of creating regular programs in schools that will involve taking care of Mother Earth. I would like schools to teach sustainability theories along with the usual subjects, like Math, Science and Language. With the youth of Brazil educated on environmental awareness, we our sector of sustainable growth will develop. We must get all citizens involved in protecting the environment, by educating them on the importance of nurturing nature, people and animals. If education begins when the citizens are young, then the reality of an eco-friendly society will be achieved faster.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I am proud of my country because not only do we have a rich biodiversity, we have a variety of cultures as well. Though the people of my country are very happy, they work very hard and are very serious about making our country a true force worldwide.
I would like to promote the beauty of our beaches, rivers, forests and the many diverse species of birds we have living in our country, as shown by the popular animated film, “Rio”. I am also proud of the efforts we have done to preserve our rich nature and endangered species of animals.

Describe your childhood/growing years

My childhood was like the life of an adult because I had to take care of my home. I did house work, took care of my younger sister, cooked for her, washed her clothes and also studied.
My mother had to work all day. She was alone so I had to take care of the house until she arrived, but I liked taking care of my house. I think it made me grow up and mature sooner. Today, even though I'm only a girl of 22 years, I have the experiences of a woman of 30 years. All the work that I have done was a great learning experience and I thank my mother for everything.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

I learned that we must always help others. I learned to overcome my fears. I learned about the value and importance of nature and that nothing comes for free. I learned that we should always look for our dreams and never give up on making them come true.

What is your most memorable moment?

My most memorable moment was when I left home to live alone in the city of Sao Paulo when I was 15 years old. I followed my dream of becoming a model while continuing my studies so that I can be a complete, well-rounded professional. I'm very happy because I have achieved my goals, and as we speak, my career is blossoming. My dreams are becoming a reality.

What is your environmental advocacy?

I think we must have a strong attitude concerning environmental preservation. If we all do our parts, we can change the world. Education and awareness are fundamental. We can start by teaching others about the small things that we can do to help our environment, while also living those lessons out as a role model to the youth. For example, being responsible with how we consume water, wasting less plastic products, walking instead of using cars, etc. These are simple things that everyone can do and if these things are done correctly, our environmental situation will certainly improve.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS CANADA - Ashlea Moor's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS CANADA | Ashlea Moor

Canada
Ashlea Moor

Age: 24

Height: 179 cm.

Weight: 54 kg.

Measurements: 86-60-86

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

The environmentalist Baba Dioum once said:
"In the end we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught."
I whole heartedly agree and have made education through my "Go Green Initiative" program central when advocating for positive environmental change. The "Go Green Initiative" was founded on the premise that great things can be achieved through small steps. By educating and compelling others to commit to making small changes, such as utilizing public transportation, turning off electronics when not in use, and conserving water the overall effect is profound. In addition to speaking in schools and public platforms, active engagement of the public in environmental initiatives is supported and encouraged.
We each have an important role. The "Go Green" program works to empower individuals and by doing so empower communities, nations, and the global population to recognize their ability to contribute to positive environmental change. By enthusiastically engaging youth, the actions taken now become ingrained as lifelong habits, ensuring future generations will value and care for the earth in years to come.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

Canada boasts of an unparalleled and pristine landscape that spans East to West from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, and North to the Arctic Ocean. Our unique landscape includes soaring mountains, vast forests, and fertile grasslands. The diverse landscape parallels the diverse array of cultures and nationalities represented in Canada, and multiculturalism is openly embraced and protected.
I am humbled by the fact that Canada is committed to providing equal opportunities to all of its citizens; we pride ourselves on taking care of one another. I feel that we spread our care and exude hospitality and kindness to all those we encounter, whether we are at home or abroad. As a world traveler I can attest to this, as I am always greeted with open arms due to the benevolence of my fellow Canadians.
I am especially proud of our thirty-six national parks and six national park reserves which serve to represent the infinite variety and beauty of our country, as well as protect the ecological integrity of these regions for all Canadians as well as the World. Given that forest covers almost half (44%) of the Canadian Landscape Canada is diligently aligning efforts with the United Nations who declared 2011 as the "International Year of Forests" in a commitment to manage, conserve, and develop forests both nationally and internationally.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

My early years established a solid foundation for life and shaped the person I am today. Growing up I had an exceptionally special bond with my grandparents, to whom I am forever indebted for the life lessons, unconditional love, and support they afforded me in all aspects of my life.
I have a deep rooted passion for learning which was no doubt formulated in my early years. This particular passion expands far beyond the classroom where I achieved my formal education. As a whole my formative years were spent learning through volunteering, dance programs, ice skating, competitive baseball, public speaking, musical productions, and a general curiosity coupled with a love of life that continues to guide me to this day.
Given the dramatic and diverse landscape of Canada it is no surprise that a majority of my childhood was spent outdoors. Through exploring I gained a profound appreciation for the natural beauty of my surroundings. I also learned the importance of preservation when it comes to our environment, and the due diligence required with maintaining balance.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years? ?

I learned to select goals because they are exceptional, worthwhile and significant- never because they are easy. This notion guided me to numerous academic achievements, as well as accomplishments in my extracurricular activities which often included supporting charitable causes close to my heart, in particular those pertaining to the environment.
Through emulating my grandmother I recognized the importance of helping others. This ultimately drove me to select nursing and medicine as my chosen career path. My early years taught me that education (both formal and informal) were of key importance to becoming a balanced, happy, and successful individual.

What is your environmental advocacy?

All ecological issues that we currently face are equally important and cumulatively combine to create the state of our environment and consequently our health as well. On the whole there is a general lack of perspective regarding environmental concerns and how we can grow and change as a global society to mitigate them holistically. As a Registered Nurse I recognize the vital connection between our environment, education, and health, which is a principal factor as to why I am passionate about advocating for environmental issues. I believe that personalizing the environmental-health connection with meaningful education is fundamental in initializing sustainable change on an individual, societal, and global scale. In working towards this goal I founded the "Go Green Initiative" program to compel others to commit to making small changes which ultimately contribute to a positive and profound difference for our environment.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS CHILE - Camila Stuardo's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS CHILE | Camila Stuardo

Chile
Camila Stuardo

Age: 22

Height: 178 cm.

Weight: 58 kg.

Measurements: 90-62-92

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

I would like to create a project that will encourage my country to spend more on clean energy and discourage overfishing, as well as deforestation.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

Chile, in my opinion, is the most beautiful country in the world. We have a very strong and stable economy. Chile offers a variety of geographical terrains and atmospheric conditions: from the driest dessert on earth, the great valleys, the rain forest, the white Andes mountain, glaciers, to the Chilean Antarctic territory. My country is very safe so you can enjoy traveling around Chile with the assurance that our police will help you in case you run into any trouble. In the north, you can enjoy in driest dessert in the world, Then you can visit southern Central Valley, from Los Andes (5th Region) down to Los Angeles (8th Region). Everything is grown in this "Central Valley" of Chile. There are plenty of cows, chickens, pigs, horses and other livestock (mainly sheep and goats) too. Dairy is big business. Wine is an even bigger business. So are oranges, pears, apples, avocados, cherries, plums, peaches, nectarines, grapes, watermelons, honeydew melons, cantaloupe, lettuce, cabbage, pumpkin, broccoli, corn, peas, asparagus, zucchini, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, potatoes, kiwis and just about any other fruit and vegetable one can imagine. The south is beautiful: full of volcanoes, lakes and ancient forests. You can also find the Mapuche (where our people originated from) here, whose cultural heritage has been kept intact over the years. My country is every tourist's dream and is a must-see for travelers.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

Around this age, I was already living alone with my mother because my parents separated. I spent my childhood going to school of course, and when I reached the age of 13, I started working as a model to make my own money.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

I learned to cherish and enjoy the beautiful moments we're given, to never surrender when faced with difficulties and to always see these hardships as opportunities to learn.

What is your most memorable moment?

TBP

What is your environmental advocacy?

I believe in baby steps: starting with myself, my home and influencing those who I'm close to. I do my share to help the environment by segregating the garbage, turning off the lights that aren't being used and riding a bike instead of using a car.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS CHINESE TAIPEI | Cherry Liu's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS CHINESE TAIPEI | Cherry Liu

Chinese Taipei
Cherry Liu

Age: 18

Height: 175 cm.

Weight: 56 kg.

Measurements: 86-63-91

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

My goal this year is to raise awareness of the importance of Environmental Protection. I believe it is essential to educate our new generation what are the environmental issues the Earth is facing in the 21st century, and how do we correspond to it. I will be visiting various elementary and junior-high schools through out the year, guiding and demonstrating them the correct way to recycle, save energy to reduce carbon emission to cool the Earth.
I will also be launching a charity t-shirt project "Smile for Earth". We have assembled a team of 100(10 beautiful girls from 10 universities) in Taiwan to assist advocating my goal, by auctioning 10 US dollar t-shirts to college students, corporate industries and political leaders. Furthermore, the profit will be the foundation for us to buy seeds and conjointly grow them in the major cities of Taiwan and also to buy reusable chopsticks for our younger generation. The vision of this campaign is to influence all ages of people in the importance of becoming eco-friendly and cherishing our Mother Earth.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

The beautiful Formosa Island- Taiwan, is celebrating its 100th Centennial this year. The small population of 23 million people has been through a long journey of political changes. But the Republic of China(Taiwan) today, is a fascinating, multicultural democratic country filled with delicious cuisines, astonishing landscapes and richness in indigenous culture. Taiwan is undeniably recognized best for The National Palace Museum, that contains 1/4 of the Worlds traditional Chinese artifacts, we also have the World's best golf player-Tseng Yani and The World's tallest eco-friendly LEED building, Taipei 101. What people may not know is that the modern, developed country Taiwan, cares tremendously about environmental protection, both the government and the people. For Example: Where I live, the busy Taipei City, every household is required to divide trash in to four categories, and we are also required to pay for waste bags, this is our way of reducing trash. We have successfully done so, by reducing 28%. And if you have a chance to visit Taiwan one day, you will notice signs in our restrooms, our offices and schools everywhere, to remind us to turn off our lights and save energy. I am proud to say that this friendly and convenient living environment, beautiful and hospitable Taiwan is my Home.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I am very blessed to grow up in a family with loving parents that have nourished me in becoming who I am today. I have a great memory of my childhood, filled with summer camps in YMCA, hiking and skiing trips on the weekends, family reunions at extraordinary beaches. I love the outdoors, and all kinds of sports. Beach volleyball, basketball, swimming….just about everything Athletic! I was also very passionate of dancing, I could dance anywhere at anytime. As I said before, I am extremely thankful for what my parents has provided me, and I hope I can do the same for my kids in the future. Offer them the clean and beautiful childhood I have lived in.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

Due to my fathers occupation, my family had the chance to live in both Taiwan and America. And the traveling between countries has shaped the character of who I am today…. the combination of two different culture traits. Being fun and outgoing, but at the same time understanding to Give and be humble. My parents were the live inspiration and motivation to me, their drive to reach their goal has proved to me that we shouldn't doubt ourselves, the only thing we should doubt is our limits! My all time favorite quote can define the experiences I have learned from the past " throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds, in your sails, explore, dream, discover." Life is a climb, you have to explore and try everything, until you realize what you want the most in life. Then set your mind on your goal, and don't let fear get to you, in the end you will find the true beauty within your own goal.

What is your most memorable moment?

My most memorable moment has to be this summer, I attended HPAIR(Harvard project for Asia International Relations). During this five day event in Seoul, there was a day called International Night. It was a night where delegates from different countries can perform something that represents their culture and country. It was an amazing night, because I got to see people the same age as me that has the same drive like me, to share the beauty of their country to the world. We saw fan dance, belly dance, break dances, and many more. Of course, 11 of us Taiwan delegates performed too. We practiced extremely hard the whole summer to learn this Tai-ya aboriginal dance, and we felt very accomplished when people from the audience joined us, in the end we even got a standing ovation! It was the proudest moment of my life so far.

What is your environmental advocacy?

My environmental advocacy will be predominantly based on education of how to be environmentally friendly. I believe it is important to teach our new generation why environmental protection needs us to take affirmative action now.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS COLOMBIA - Andrea De Vivo Creazzo's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS COLOMBIA | Andrea De Vivo Creazzo

Colombia
Andrea DeVivo

Age: 24

Height: 174 cm.

Weight: 50 kg.

Measurements: 86-62-90

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

Consistent with my environmental advocacy of wildlife preservation, my environmental project aims to curb some of its major threats. Because we have received the benefits of biodiversity for free, we tend to take it for granted. As humans, we are an essential part of the environment, and with over 6 billion people on Earth our combined efforts have a huge impact on our world. Therefore, the first part to this project starts at a grass roots level, through education, awareness and eco-friendly day-to-day decisions.
The second part of the project considers that the preservation of species and ecosystems can be achieved mainly through government action and intervention. Protected areas are the major instrument in the preservation of biodiversity. Therefore, it is essential to foster dialogue between the government, conservationists, indigenous communities and other interest groups in order to develop strategies and regulations that perpetuate and enlarge protected areas nationally and internationally.
Human beings depend on a healthy and diverse planet. When the Earth suffers, so do we.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I am proud to be born in such an ecologically and ethnically rich country. Our unique geographical conditions, from the highlands of the Andes, to the Amazon rainforest, and our privileged location, between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, makes Colombia the most bio-diverse country per square kilometer in the world. With 10% of the world's flora and fauna, we rank first in the world for variety of birds, second in variety of plants and amphibians and third in reptiles and palms.
Colombia's multicultural population reflects its colorful history. The mix of native inhabitants, Africans, Spanish settlers, and immigrants from Europe and the Middle East, left us with a rich cultural heritage. Colombians are festive, joyful, hospitable and hard-working people who are very proud of their country.
In the past few years, we have progressed significantly and have obtained many achievements in terms of safety, economic and social development, foreign investment, ecology and tourism. Colombia is Passion. Today, the only risk of coming to Colombia is falling in love with its landscape, its people, its cuisine, its fairs, festivities and culture… and wanting to stay.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I am from Northern Colombia, from the state of La Guajira, a desert region where an Amerindian ethnic group called Wayuu live. Because of my father's job, we lived in a small town close to a national park called Macuira, an oasis in the middle of the desert. I was taught to love and respect nature, as we were always in contact with it.
As a child, I would talk my brothers into rehearsing and performing Christmas shows for our friends and family. They would dance to Backstreet Boys and imitate current, popular Latin American talk shows in front of all of our guests, and then I would sing and dance Shakira's songs like the whole world was watching. As I grew up, I found other ways of being a leader and I began participating in Model United Nations Conferences nationwide, presiding over several committees, and learning about important environmental, security and social issues affecting our world.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

My family has always been the pillar of my life. My parents are my role models and they have taught me by example. My father has worked very hard to become who he is today and from him I learned to follow my dreams, and that the more you get, the more you should give in return. He was always involved in helping the less fortunate communities in La Guajira and seeing how his actions changed people's lives is a life lesson for me. From my mother, I learned to trust God and that His plans for us are perfect. I have been very fortunate to live in different countries and to meet many special people who have taught me to appreciate the world and who make up the person I am today.

What is your most memorable moment?

One of my most memorable moments is a special conversation I had with my grandfather. I had always known that Nonno, as all of his grandchildren called him, had smoked cigarettes from a very young age. But when I was 15 years old, he revealed to me the reason why he quit; when my mother was pregnant with me, she told him that unless he stopped his usual 3 packets a day, he would not be able to be around his first granddaughter, because she did not want her baby exposed to that. That is how, in July 1987, after 42 years of smoking and trying to quit, he finally did. The process was hard and he struggled, but it was all out of love for me and for our family. He said that holding me in his arms for the first time made it all worth it. His sacrifice made him live longer than doctors expected him to, and I was able to have him in my life and share that moment with him. Nonno passed away in 2004, but his memory will live in me forever.

What is your environmental advocacy?

My environmental advocacy is wildlife conservation. Wildlife conservation refers to the protection and restoration of species and their supporting ecosystems, particularly in relation to endangered species. All uses of wildlife should be sustainable and not injurious to the conservation of biodiversity. Therefore, it is vital to identify and curb its major threats, which include habitat loss, climate change, the use of pesticides and toxic chemicals, forest mismanagement, pollution, global market factors and over-exploitation of resources. For life on Earth to carry on and thrive, biodiversity in the environment must be preserved intact, as it upholds the health of the planet and has a direct impact on all our lives. The worst part is that as biodiversity decreases, our use of resources actually increases. WWF estimates that biodiversity has declined by more than 25% in the last 35 years. No one can escape the impact of biodiversity loss, and there is no turning back.

My environmental project in this long and beautiful time as Miss Earth Costa Rica was based, in many causes to protect Mother Earth. Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS CZECH REPUBLIC - Sarka Cojocarova 's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS CZECH REPUBLIC | Sarka Cojocarova

Czech Republic
Šárka Cojocarová

Age: 22

Height: 178 cm.

Weight: 60 kg.

Measurements: 92-62-94

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

The protection of the biodiversity on Mother Earth: the number of species of plants, animals and microorganisms, the enormous diversity of genes in these species, the different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rainforests and coral reefs are all part of a biologically diverse Earth.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

The Czech Republic displays a symbiosis of natural and man-made beauty. As far as cultural sites are concerned, it is a top European destination. Tourists from around the globe come to see our culture, history and architecture. The clearest evidence of this is the inclusion of 12 sites in UNESCO’s world cultural heritage list. In 2005, a large part of the Czech Paradise area, including the Protected Czech Paradise nature reserve was declared a UNESCO Geopark. The historical centre of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, has been part of the UNESCO list since 1992. No other place on earth can boast such a high concentration of UNESCO sites in such a small area.
In the west of Czech Republic, there are scores of extinct volcanoes and hot springs, in the north, sandstone ‘rock towns’ tower over the landscape, in the central regions, the fertile Elbe plain spreads out far and wide and the south is literally pockmarked with ponds and lakes. The Moravian mountain ranges are thickly carpeted with forest, which gradually gives way to the undulating wine-growing regions of South Moravia. The whole country is girdled by mountain ranges, ideal for winter sports.

Describe your childhood/growing years

As a little girl, I grew up in the countryside in the northeast of the Czech Republic. At the age of eleven I went to study ballet in a larger city, but since I was a typical girl from the village, I was always looking forward to go home to our little farm. I really enjoyed spending my free time outdoors, surrounded by wheat fields, meadows, lakes and animals. To this day, the beauty of the city and civilization has never replaced the beauty of nature and wildlife in my heart.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

My childhood gave me one great lesson in life and that’s independence and the ability to take care of myself and other people. Since I was eleven, I practically lived alone in the city so I had to become independent. At that time, I realized the importance of family and friends in my life, people who I can trust, who take care of me and support me in everything I do.

What is your most memorable moment?

Since cooperating with the Czech Association of Paraplegics, my most memorable moment was when I first met people on wheelchairs. I found it amazing how these people enjoy life a lot more than some people who are healthy. Paraplegics are helping other disabled people as well to re-engage in normal life like having children, going to work, etc. The power of humanity that I saw in these people hit me incredibly.

What is your environmental advocacy?

In terms of my environmentally oriented project, I chose the topic of the protection of biodiversity on Mother Earth. The number of species of plants, animals, and microorganisms, the enormous diversity of genes in these species, the different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rainforests and coral reefs are all part of a biologically diverse Earth.

Meet Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS DENMARK - Cecilia Iftikhar's Photo & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS DENMARK | Cecilia Iftikhar

Denmark
Cecilia Iftikhar

Age: 24

Height: 173 cm.

Weight: 53 kg.

Measurements: 82-68-96

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

Through my work as an ambassador for the Danish Society for Nature Conservation, I will active work for more attention the preserve the forests because they are very important for us. The oxygen that our trees is producing is vital for the human survival. Somehow we need to get more back to basic.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I am proud of our country's (government, industries and citizens) focus on reducing CO2 emission. Denmark is also a world leader in green energy, especially wind power. My organization, The Official Miss Denmark Organization, is located in the heart of the green energy metropole of Denmark. This is a strong signal they are sending worldwide and I am proud to give my full support to this.
Denmark and the Danish government is very supporting about of green thinking and ideas. Eg. there is in many big cities the possibility to borrow a bike to get in the city, totally free. When you finish using the bike, the next one can just take it from there.
Denmark is also well known for its lovely beaches and fantastic nature that changes a lot just over a short distance, so even if is a small country, we still lot of beautiful nature. Besides our nature changes a lot through the 4 seasons of the year, with results in amazing colors for each time of the year.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I was born and raised in Denmark, in a little town called Nærum, just north of the capital city, Copenhagen with my mom, dad, older sister and my younger sister.
I was a very active child with many friends, and I was always amused in one way or another. I was very fortunate to grow up in a green area, so the nature played a big role in my upbringing. My best childhood friend and I had a cave in a tree, where many hours were spent. Here we could get away from everyone and just be ourselves. Here there were no adults who said no to anything, and here we could be in our own child universe without being disturbed.
I was already from a young age very fascinated by animals, and I quickly discovered the great creatures in nature. That is why I loved playing in the nature, such as in the woods and at the beach. That is why I highly appreciate the nature today and sees it as a beautiful and fragile thing, that we should appreciate and care for the coming generations.
My grandparents lived right around the corner, so I spent a great amount of time being spoiled. They were very loving and I am grateful and happy that they were such a huge part of my childhood.
Besides playing in Denmark, I got the opportunity to travel to Pakistan with my family, where I am partly from. From here I have many memorable experiences and my interest for animals grew as my dad made sure to show us all kinds of animals, such as parrots, falcons, apes, horses etc. My childhood was safe and comforting and I can look back at it with huge appreciation. It has definitely been some important years, which helped shape the woman I am today.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

Because my mom is Danish and my dad is Pakistani they had two comepletely different backgrounds, but they managed to take the best from both cultures, to the advantage of my sisters and I. My parents taught me from a young age to be kind to other people and help where help is needed. They taught me the values of respecting others no matter ethnicity, religion or social status, to treat people, like I wanted to be treated.
Another important thing my parents taught me was to not be scared of anything, but to believe in myself and follow my dreams. I feel very fortunate to have such supporting parents, and it is thanks to them that I am the person I am today.

What is your most memorable moment?

I have many good memories, one of the best is from when I was about ten-years-old and went to Pakistan with my dad. My dad bought me a lot of birds and I loved them, especially falcons and eagles that I found very beautiful. One day my dad came home with two falcon pups, who had been abandon by their mother, and we took care of them. My dad and I gave them food everyday and he taught me everything about falcons. We trained them, with the purpose to let them loose in nature again. They became the most beautiful falcons I have ever seen and I remember I was really sad about letting them loose. But my father was good to learn from him, and he taught me and my sisters what was right and wrong. That is why I already learned from a young age that most animals belong in the nature.

What is your environmental advocacy?

I would like to protect beautiful nature places, especially forests in Denmark. Here in Denmark we are so privileged to have a lot of small places where people can walk around and enjoy the wonderful nature. In Denmark we have several forests that are protected so that they will be preserved.
I know that it is a huge problem worldwide that eg. rainforest are being destroyed and abused for industrial cause. I know it is a wide topic, but eg. the ozone layer makes it more important to preserve our nature.

Miss Earth 2011 Contestant - MISS CRIMEA EARTH 2011 Nina Astrakhantseva' Photos & Profile/Interview

MISS EARTH 2011 - MISS CRIMEA | Nina Astrakhantseva

Crimea
Nina Astrakhantseva

Age: 21

Height: 179 cm.

Weight: 58 kg.

Measurements: 90-62-92

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

"When the last tree is cut, when the last fish is poisoned, when the last bird is caught, only then will humanity understand that they can't eat money"- Indian leader (XIX century)
One of the main problems in our planet is air pollution. This situation is more difficult in touristic countries and regions, such as Crimea. Every year more than 5 million tourists visit Crimea to experience our beautiful nature, go sightsing and visit museums. I think that two of the main causes of air pollution is deforestation and the exhaust of transport and heating systems. For me it is very important to work with NGOs, media and corporations in creating the foundation "HEALTHFUL AIR".
The main goals of this foundation should be:
- Teaching students and children the ecology of our planet and country, working with media to support the propaganda of healthy living and caring for surrounding environment.
- Encouraging companies and corporations to apply Corporate Social Responsibility
- Organization of activities for protecting the environment (such as landing new trees in forests on weekends. The main goal is to rid the forests of garbage)
- Creation and implementation of the program to encourage the use of ecologically clean sources of energy and transport with the support of the government of Crimea.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

Crimea has a rich history, the remains of which you can see today. There are the Greek ruins at Xersones, the Geonese fortress of Sudak, the cave towns of Bakhchisarai, the Livadia palace; where Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill carved up Europe at the end of the 2nd World War, and much more. Crimea has a large variety of very impressive historical sights. Crimea is a very beautiful part of the world. It offers a combination of spectacular mountains, cliffs and the sparkling Black sea. The peninsula contains untouched forests, deep canyons and interesting rock formations, as well as a multitude of palaces and monuments to its historical past. Crimea's combination of natural beauty and historical monuments is practically unsurpassed. Crimea's sea and mountains offer great opportunities for outdoor adventure activities, including climbing, biking, caving and diving. Its particularly exciting to do such activities in Crimea, as the tourist infrastructure is not well developed. If you are hiking in the mountains for instance, you can be close to amenities and comforts whist still feeling like you are out there in the wild. My home is one the most unbelievable place of the world! It is the most beautiful part of the Earth. I love Crimea and I believe that you will love it too.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

Thanks to God and to my parents I had great childhood. I got good education and background. I was good at science and poetry, was a leader in school and social worker. I spent my childhood with my lovely sister and parents who helped me every time I need one. I remember my young years as beautiful fairy tale which took place in amazing land- Crimea. I will do everything to give my children so many love and care as I had.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years? ?

If you want something all universe will help you. You need to dream and your dreams will come true. And never stop on results you have.

What is your environmental advocacy?

As I have already said I want to create the foundation "HEALTHFUL AIR". We need to bring up love and care to nature since childhood, so I will create and do special courses of ecology in schools. The main effect will bring special programs created with government of Crimea to stimulate using the alternative sources of energy. More than 30 years we use in Crimea sun and wind energy, transport which is working by electricity. The government should have special taxes for companies which use ecological free sources of energy and have programs of corporate social responsibility. We need to plant new trees and to create new parks and green zones in terms of CSR and social work. With working together, people can have clean and healthy air, water and beautiful future for them and their children!
