What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

The implementation of Woodland Management Techniques in Zimbabwe will help preserve forests. The initial stage involves educating people on proper and effective ways of managing forests. It is also important to highlight Fire Protection by creating fire guards around the forests. In drier parts of Zimbabwe where there is low precipitation people can be taught ways of "Pruning" trees if the wood is required for firewood. Additionally methods like pollarding can be used to preserve the life of trees. As an incentive to sustain trees in villages, villagers can be engaged in Beekeeping Projects. The Bee Hives which are kept in the trees will discourage the cutting down of trees but will be beneficial to the people as they will get honey as well as wax they can use for candles and other such projects.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

Steeped in the ancestral importance to both the local Matebele people and ancient San Bushmen, the fascinating Matopos Hills in southern Zimbabwe boast excellent examples of San rock paintings to accompany a significant wildlife population.

The Victoria Falls provide awe inspiring sightseeing and have become one of Africa's most popular tourist destinations. Often called Africa's adrenaline capital, activities range from white water rafting to famous Vic Falls bungee, whilst the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park provides numerous safari opportunities.

The Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe's largest and oldest wildlife reserve and is renowned as one of Africa's greatest conservation areas. With its excellent infrastructure, abundant wildlife and 400bird species, it has become one of Zimbabwe's prime game-viewing destinations.

The Mana Pools National Park and World Heritage Site consists of four main pools and several smaller pools scattered along the course of the might Zambezi River. Together with the surrounding floodplain, Mana Pools is home to a large and varied wildlife population.

A little less than 30km beyond the South-Eastern town of Masvingo lies The Great Zimbabwe Ruins built of granite stones with no mortar. The ruins are remarkable; lofty, majestic, awe-inspiring, timeless. The structures were built by indigenous Zimbabweans between AD 1250 and AD 1450.

In addition to the beautiful fauna, the magnificent hills, rivers and glades Zimbabwe's greatest asset is its people. A welcoming nation filled with warmth and hospitality. The people of Zimbabwe have used indigenous methods to conserve the nations natural resources and continue to preserve those resources to ensure generations to come can enjoy the same pleasures we have.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I grew up with my brother Nelson who is three years my senior. I looked up to him a lot and in some way was my childhood hero. We were best friends because we spent most of our time together. Both my parents worked fulltime with my mom travelling for her work. I vividly remember being an active young girl who was always mistaken for a boy. At the age 10 there was a new edition to our family when younger brother was born. His birth changed my life a lot and caused me to mature very quick. The birth of my brother really brought our family together and many changes came about.

Our family started travelling more and I always enjoyed the road trips we took. My dad would tell us stories of the places he had travelled to as a child and my mom would also share about her own travel experiences through work. At the age 12 I began high school at an all girls Catholic School and saw a huge transformation from being a tomboy into becoming more lady-like.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

The greatest lesson I learned from my childhood was loyalty. My brother and I had forged a great friendship and it meant we stood by each other and always looked out for each other. I also mastered respect for people at that age. When I was a child we always had different women living and working in our home as nannies and housemaids. My mother instilled such a great level of respect in us that we never viewed them as being house help but rather people who deserved our respect and who did a great job; taking care of us. With the birth of my brother I had to learn to share. Initially it was difficult because I had been the youngest for years and had never had to share but eventually sharing became second nature.

What is your most memorable moment?

My most memorable moment as a child was getting on an airplane for the first time. I had been to the airport several times to send off or to fetch either one of my parents but had never been on a plane myself. I always wondered what happened after they went through the closed doors, what did the inside of an airport look like and how did it feel to fly! I was excited to say the least and my dad let me have the window seat so I could see everything! At takeoff I had such an adrenaline rush but 45mins later when we were landing in Harare I was so nervous. It was a great experience. I remember thinking when I grow up I would love to be a flight attendant, they were the most beautiful women I had ever seen.

What is your environmental advocacy?

My environmental advocacy is Forest Restoration through tree planting. On an individual level I am supporting tree planting schemes in areas facing deforestation in Zimbabwe. I have been encouraging replanting of trees in rural and urban areas where trees have been cut down for firewood. On a national level I am seeing to it that the Tobacco Wood Energy Program is implemented. As it stands Tobacco is a high export product in Zimbabwe. The farming of tobacco has an adverse effect on the environment as trees are cut down and used in the curing process of the tobacco. It has been mandated that all Tobacco farmers set aside 10 hectares of land for the planting of the fast growing Eucalyptus (Gum tree). The process of coppicing can be used to ensure the same trees can be later used for curing of the tobacco. This will have a huge overall impact on the forestry of Zimbabwe.

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

I’ll create an environmental project that will deal with the recycling of materials such as paper and plastic, which in turn will reduce pollution, prevent ozone layer depletion and contribute to the worldwide climate positively.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I love the rich sense of culture and the peace Zambia enjoys, and I am very proud of that. I’d like to promote the tourism sector in my country because I believe that Zambia has one of the best natural resources in the world and the Victoria Falls is an example of a few. Moreover, my country also has a number of exciting and entertaining traditional ceremonies.

Describe your childhood/growing years

My growing years were exciting because I got to explore and develop interests in various areas. When I was 8, I was a little ballerina and I loved dancing, but that was only for a year because moved to another school after. At 9, I focused more on modeling as a recreation and I’d model at every school event. This went on until I left primary school. At 13, in boarding school, I learned a lot of life and social skills.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

Success comes to those who prepare for it. I believe that everyone has a fair chance to succeed in life. Failure, however, us a state of mind and I urge everyone never to give up until they achieve their goal regardless of the situation they are going through at the time.

What is your most memorable moment?

My most memorable moment was the day I was crowned Zambia's Supermodel because that was my first title ever. It was a very happy moment because I had finally achieved my goal at the time after a period of intensive grooming.

I also felt important and it was exciting and encouraging to get a lot of support from my family and friends.

What is your environmental advocacy?

My environmental advocacy is waste management. This deals with the control of waste disposal because in Zambia, waste isn't disposed of properly.

I plan on sensitizing the citizens of Zambia about the benefits of recycling paper and plastic.

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

The environmental project I have chosen to create is to massively decrease the amount of air pollution we produce every day. Air pollution is certainly something we can all help reduce to make the world a healthier place for future generations. People need to be made aware of the fact that the pollution we are creating at present will have more of an impact on our grandchildren than ourselves.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

Wales is a small country that despite being a near neighbour to England has preserved its own language and culture. Its coal and iron industries were at the centre of the first Industrial Revolution. New systems of transport had their beginnings here. However the old heavy industries have gone and modern Wales has had to adapt. It has developed new service industries.

It is a beautiful country with many mountains and valleys. As it lies to the west of Britain it has an abundant amount of rainfall and Wales is thus a green land. It is a land of many ancient castles, caves, rivers and waterfalls. It is a land of small towns and villages. It is a tourist's delight.

The people of Wales are known for their friendliness. Wales is famous for the choirs and singers it has produced. Many of the latter are world renowned. Education has always been a matter of great importance to its people and Wales has produced many important people in the fields of both the arts and the sciences.

Because of the negative aspects of industrialization inherited from its past, the people of Wales are very aware of the need to take care of the planet we all inhabit. As a Christian I see it as my duty to do all that I can to preserve this wonderful world.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I had a happy childhood, and grew up in a town in South Wales. I lived with my parents and my younger sister. We always looked forward to spending our weekends with our grandparents. During these weekends we used to go to the Sunday school run by the church we attended. So during these years the foundations of my faith and my moral compass were laid. I enjoyed my primary and early secondary education because I have always found learning a passion.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

I learned from my Christian faith that it is who you are, not what you are, that is important. Despite working hard, my parents were never affluent and often struggled to make ends meet. Thus I learned that happiness does not reside in material wealth. Love is more important than money. I remember my grandfather telling me never to take my eye off the ball, and I grew up remembering that who I was and my education remained the goal. From the occasional bullying that I experienced in school I learned that long-term relationships are far more important than short-term popularity.

What is your most memorable moment?

I will never forget the day my younger sister was born. Even though I was only four years old at the time I can remember so much about it. As I was no longer the youngest in my family, my life changed significantly from that day. My parents allowed me to hold her when she was an hour old and I remember clearly asking if we could name her Sarah - and they did.

What is your environmental advocacy?

Since becoming Miss Earth Wales I have traveled to many schools throughout the UK to promote the three R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. I believe that children should learn to be ecologically responsible from a young age to improve their chances of a healthier future. It is important that they learn from our wrong- doings and love the planet they were blessed with.

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
Protecting the Earth is actually a very important at this time because the Earth has been destroyed by rapid industrial development, air pollution, deforestation in developing countries, groundwater pollution, improper waste disposal, etc. All of these have caused many disasters worldwide in recent years such as flood, hurricanes and droughts. I do hope that I can contribute in a campaign to appeal to the people to protect the forests. Through these campaigns, more people will be aware of the importance of protecting the environment.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I'm always so proud of being Vietnamese. Although Vietnam is a developing country, I always wanted live and work here, and contribute my effort to my country. I am not only proud of our over a thousand year old culture, traditions and national solidarity, but I am also proud of Vietnam's natural resources and the charms of nature such as HaLong Bay, Phong Nha Cave, Hoi An, and Mekong Delta. That's why the young people of Vietnam must take full responsibility in protecting the ecosystem by developing and using these resources reasonably.

Vietnam is an independent, peaceful and safe place where I have never seen terrorism or school shooting. The Vietnamese people are polite, friendly, hospitable and good-natured, and always give a warm welcome to friends around the world visiting Vietnam. Visitors will be amazed at our culture, food, clothes and the weather in each landscape they will travel through. For example, going to the North of Vietnam, Halong Bay and Sapa are the major tourist spots from Hanoi. One can see the colorful town inhabited by the H'mong and Dzao people from the local hill tribes.

Going along seacoast, one can explore and experience beautiful beaches such as Langco Beach and Nha Trang Beach. And to the South of Vietnam are the lovely and lively floating markets in the Mekong Delta such as the Cai Rang floating market. I feel most people would love these places when they visit Vietnam.

Describe your childhood/growing years.
I had a normal childhood just like other Vietnamese kids. I went to school, enjoyed traveling with my parents, and was pretty much a carefree kid. But aside from concentrating on my academic subjects, I also studied ballet at the Vietnam Ballet Institute where I joined several musical and dance shows, as well as activities about protecting the environment such as planting trees in school and sweeping my school yard to keep it clean.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years? ?
Being the eldest in the family, I learned to be responsible and independent. I try to set good examples for my siblings. Being independent helped when I moved from my hometown, Hanoi, to settle in Ho Chi Minh City where everything was completely new to me. I was scared at first always had to keep pace with my new environment. I tried my best to be strong, as I believe this is important to become successful in life.

What is your most memorable moment?
My most memorable life experience is when I registered for the Miss Hanoi Beauty Contest all by myself. I was only 17 then; it was my first time on the catwalk and I was very nervous. Luckily, I won second place and my family was so happy and proud of me. That special moment inspired me to become a professional model.

What is your environmental advocacy?
In practical, I am a normal citizen in Vietnam, I only aware of not doing drop litter, saving water and electricity and prohibiting the uncontrolled use of harmful chemical etc. I affirm that I did all above daily. I had chances to join many activities about protecting environment as planting trees in school, sweeping my school yard, and performing in music and dance shows which were environmental nature. Specially, I aware of the important of forestation, I contributed my small effort to plant a tree aim at representing to everyone about protecting and recovering our green lung.

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

Coral reefs help prevent erosion of beaches, provide breading and feeding grounds for marine life, control carbon dioxide in the water and bring money to low income regions. Pollution, overfishing and abuse of our reefs have put them in danger of destruction. The environmental project that I would create to promote the protection of mother earth would be a program called - Reef Keepers. Despite a growing interest in coral reefs and environmental issues, the population needs to know more. According to experts most of the population does not realize the urgency of protecting our endangered reefs. Reef Keepers will be a program designed to educate the public about their effects on our precious reefs. The most basic thing that people need to know about coral reefs is that it is a living organism and not simply a rock.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

At age 22 I've already traveled to many destinations and nothing compares to the beauty of the place I am proud to call home, the U.S. Virgin Islands. The many different faces, the strong religious values and the warm and welcoming nature of our people are some of our islands greatest assets. Our islands are unique and offer something for everyone such as swimming in our crystal clear waters, hiking our beautiful nature trails or shopping in our historic districts. The landscape of our islands is truly breathtaking and attracts visitors from all over the world.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

These are the years that shaped my life and helped make me who I am today. Growing up as the youngest of four siblings; those being significantly older than me, I learned to adapt and be able to interact with people of all ages. My parents also taught me the importance of traveling and exploring new cultures. In school I was very active in sports where I learned to work in a team environment and became more self-confident. All of these things have contributed to the person I have become.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

First and foremost I have learned that my family values are the core of who I am. Every decision that I make in life stems from the strong beliefs that my family has instilled in me. Hard work, a positive attitude and perseverance will determine the successes that I have in life. I have learned that nothing comes for free and that my personal dedication and commitment will make my dreams a reality.

What is your most memorable moment?

My most memorable moment was when my mother and stepfather purchased beachfront property in an isolated area of Mexico when I was just a little girl. This gave me the opportunity to travel with my family and experience a new culture. I knew from the beginning I had to give up my TV, computer and other electronics for a place with no electricity. This was a great experience for me as I learned what it was like to be one with nature. This time allowed me the opportunity to learn how to snorkel, surf and survive without all the modern conveniences that we take for granted each day. I even had the opportunity to climb to the top of Mayan ruins. It was survivor 101 for me and I learned so much. Some of my most memorable moments were spent there and I would not trade it for anything.

What is your environmental advocacy?

My environmental advocacy is educating the public on the dangers of not protecting our planet from pollution. It is critically important that we as a community understand that the things we do today impact future generations. It is our responsibility to protect our environment and provide a safe place for our kids and grandkids to live in the future. By educating the public and enforcing environmental protection laws we will ensure the sustainability of our planet.

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

My platform entitled Food for Thought promotes agriculture education from an environmental perspective. Agriculture education has always been a guiding force in my life. Since high school I have been involved and promoted agriculture education through my activities in the FFA – a youth agriculture group - and particularly with the programs Agriculture in the Classroom and Black Stallion Literacy Project. Agriculture is an integral part of our daily lives and it affects our immediate environment whether we realize it or not. Furthermore, our treatment of our lands and water resources has a direct impact on agriculture and therefore on what we end up taking in as food. By educating our children about agriculture we provide them with a foundation for further exploration of our global economy and environment and with an appreciation for what our soil provides us with and the importance of protecting and preserving it. Agriculture is a global practice and therefore the project can be implemented worldwide. During my education at the University of Florida I was fortunate to participate in a study abroad program "Sustainability in Agriculture" and traveled to Costa Rica. Using agriculture education I would like to promote some of the lessons I learned during my travels. I think that our previous generations did it right with their Victory Gardens during WWII and now our generations have brought that further with integrating composting and recycling. During my reign I would like to continue working with my platform as well as explore other options within a similar educational context.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

The United States is actively seeking ways for its mass public to become more environmentally friendly. Through top executives such as our Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, we are constantly funding research and promoting the improvement of our country's clean energy policies. Our country has many environmental policies that demonstrate the value that Americans place on our environment. These policies include our expansive state and national park systems, our animal rights and protection agencies, as well as our drive to further our use of alternative energies. The United States is not perfect by any means- what country is? But our "can do" attitude is what I am most proud of! Iwould also be honored to promote all of our country's natural landmarks, which are sites that the government protects for containing outstanding biological and geological resources, such as Barfoot Park, Morrison Fossil Area National Natural Landmark, Diamond Head on the Island of Oahu, Okefenokee Swamp, and Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

These years of my life were my formative years. During these years I was advanced in school to an honors program in which I remained in through my graduation of high school. It was also when I had my first agriculture education classes and began to choose the path that I would take in my life. I also held my first leadership roles in school clubs. I also continued to dance, which has always taught me to be aware of myself and my surroundings. It's strange that these years are truly so important but they were some of the most important in bringing me where I am today.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years? ?

Education is the key to everything in life, not just book education but life experience – hands-on - education as well. During these years I was fortunate to experience different aspects of life: art, technology and computers, agriculture, health and healthcare. From all this I chose my path in life. The times I spent outdoors taught me about myself, how far I could push myself, taking risks and learning to survive. I gained a perspective on my independence and my inner strength as a young person. I was determined to work hard so that I would be rewarded in my life later on. While I was in FFA, a student agriculture club, I learned the most about myself. Through public speaking events I learned how to command the attention of an audience and the responsibility attached to it. Through parliamentary procedure demonstrations I learned how to methodically break down problems and solve them. I will never forget these lessons because they still live within me.

What is your environmental advocacy?

My platform Food for Thought is a two-fold project. I advocate for lessening the impact that agriculture practices have on the environment. I also promote environmental awareness through teaching children the connection between what we eat and the land that produces such food. Agriculture safe practices are essential to our survival. Educating our future farmers on environmental practices will ensure these safe practices are applied and enforced. Awareness comes first. We must learn our true impact on Earth in order to lessen it. Our agriculture practices directly affect the environment in which we live and the way we live directly affects our land. Through my platform I educate others on the impact that agriculture has on our environment through carbon footprint realizations, best management practices, and making agriculture relevant even to those who may not be directly involved. It is important to cover all groups of people because we all need to eat. The platform includes hands-on workshops, creation of organic gardens, field trips, and seminars.

Here in Uruguay, has created a project to preserve a place called Cape Polonius, an oceanic coastal area which is famous and known for its huge moving dunes, the project is to remove illegal constructions in the area that do not allow the movement of dunes, thus restoring the natural order.

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

I am a representative of the fund, "Queen for ecology!" that was created after my coronation. We are going to hold a range of activities and charity events for planting on the forest park in central Kiev. The fund is planning to plant 24 trees and holding a charity dinner to raise money for further distribution for planting of greenery. I believe that my statements in the media and advertising campaigns will help in attracting attention for the fund raising and encourage people's participation in it because it involves people from different classes and income strata.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I represent a country that, for centuries, fought for their independence. I'm really proud that Ukraine is an independent sovereign country and I believe in its future. Ukraine has a great past, and I think that we will build a great future. Our main treasure - our land: fields dotted with wheat, mountains covered with forests, freshwater river. Such beauty caresses the soul . And the architecture of cities: Kiev, Kharkov, Lvov are amazing. It testifies to the high level of culture of our ancestors. Our nation has a rich culture, a great treasure which consists of the values acquired over many generations. They are embedded in Ukrainian customs, rituals, folklore, because the attitude and mentality of our people explain and justify relationships between people, the value of the spiritual culture of the individual and the people in general. Ukraine has given to the world many outstanding scientists, writers, astronauts, athletes ... My people are hardworking, strong, patient and very hospitable, Without a doubt , Ukraine is my home, and I am proud to live in it.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I grew up in Ukraine. I studied gymnastics and ballet from the age of 5 until I was 10 years old. At the age of 12, I started ballroom dancing and by the time I was 13, I won my first medal. I liked to draw and read, but animals were my weakness. I adored doing little tasks to please my parents, like cooking them some plain treats when I was home. I liked to go out of the city to walk in the woods, watch wild flowers and imagine I was a mermaid. Victor Hugo said" Nature as a good smiling mother, gives itself to our dreams and cherishes our fantasies.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

I learned to understand that people should help and support each other in any situation. Under no circumstances should they lose courage. I also learned that we should stick to our values and treat people the way we want to be treated. Lastly, I believe that each person has his own destiny in this life.

What is your most memorable moment?

All my life is full of wonderful, happy and memorable moments.

What is your environmental advocacy?

All the nations have the same basic environmental problems so we should all have the same environmental advocacy. In fact, the environmental crisis has assumed global proportions. That is why many ecological problems can generally be solved only at the world community level. As nations we all share a single ecological space. Nuclear radiation does not respect administrative or national regions. All the nations must assume a position as responsible members of the world community level, cooperating in matters of environmental protection. It's important that we all work together to overcome ecological disasters. Both scientists and politicians agree that if some radical steps are not taken, life on our planet may be damaged if not destroyed altogether because the number of air pollutants is constantly growing. I do my best to never lose the importance given by Turkish society of concept of family and I support Turkish society by spreading this topic any I try to improve and take foreword this topic.

Because I was the youngest child of my family, there was greater interest. I was hard working, curious and my growing years was very very moving.

I realized that success cannot to be obtained without working hard.

I felt very happy on 15th of my birthday because my birthday party was very enjoyable, which could not be open for someone under this difficult condition, was opened for me at sk resort.

I've participated many projects about environment since childhood. For example I donated for reforestation and greening the environment. What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

I believe littering is an aspect of everyday life that greatly affects our environment; hence I would like to promote a pilot project which centers around sensitizing young persons on the dangers of littering and waste management in the communities. The objective would be to raise awareness in an attempt to get young persons more actively involved in clean up projects in their homes, schools and their community, emphasizing the great need for such management. In addition encourage voluntary partnership among corporate bodies, other environmental organizations, and schools to be part of an "ongoing" process.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I love my country! There are many aspects which makes me proud to be a "trinibagonian". However the main feature which makes my country such a uniquely beautiful place is our harmonious multi-cultural society. The different ethnicities, cultures, races, traditions and religions surely make Trinidad and Tobago a wonderful place. My country is commonly referred to by the world over as the "melting pot". Our people recognize and most of all RESPECT each other's traditions and values and even partake in the various religious festivities with much enthusiasm and love. As our national anthem proudly says: "side by side we stand" and "where every creed and race finds an equal place".

Our diverse, exotic and delectable cuisine such as: callaloo, curry crab and dumpling, pelau, doubles just to name a few, our pulsating rhythmic music like: soca, chutney, kaiso, and calypso, our many breath-taking tourist attractions and natural wonders of our soil: the soothing enchanting waters of the Argyle Waterfalls, the home of one of our National Birds - The Caroni Bird Sanctuary, the largest freshwater wetland which was designated a "Wetland of International Importance" under the Ramsar Convention known as the Nariva Swamp, the magnificent natural gem of our land the Buccoo Reef etc., our vibrant and energetic Carnival celebrations, The Hindu Festival of Lights commonly known as Diwali and the National instrument - The Steelpan, are some of the fundamental aspects of my country of sweet T&T which I would promote.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I remember being very tom-boyish in my early years as a child, though I am the 2nd child in my family, which comprises of an older sister and a younger brother. I was always a child on "the go" running around the immediate environs bare feet laughing and playing football, if not with myself but with my dad when he was not too busy working. I was one to always be helping my dad in the garage as he was a mechanic by trade. I remembered going to Sunday school every other Sunday with my siblings and Mum who had us girls dressed in frilly girly dresses with bows and stockings which at those times I was perturbed as I had much enjoyed wearing pants and tee-shirts instead. My mum was very influential and hence I had the "glorious" opportunity to say grace at the table every Sunday. I was a very outspoken young lady then at that tender age and not too welcomed my candid manner, but at the same time they recognized that I was very respectable to them. At school I was branded as the "class clown" as I always made jokes and disrupted class. My wild imagination enabled me to excel in creative writing and art.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

I have learnt never to compare myself to others, as I did this constantly in my younger years. I learnt to be satisfied with whatever I had or was given. I was taught the importance of family time and the value of giving without expecting anything in return. I have learnt further that with true commitment, hard work and dedication comes your heart's wish and no matter the length of time it may take to achieve success that it will be realized, and most of all that family and love for God is of utmost importance.

What is your most memorable moment?

My most memorable moment was when I won a calypso competition at school. the song entitled "My Big Sister" was composed by my father, my sister and my self. I was only in Standard 2 then and when I heard that the school was having this competition I was eager to participate and when I got home I had discussed it with my Dad who was very supportive and we decided there and then to compose a song about my Big Sis & I. The lyrics and melody just came natural to us as we sat and composed the song. I practiced every night on my composure and delivery of the calypso and when I heard my name - "Marvelous Melanie" – which was my stage name being called as the winner in my age category I was elated and my grand prize was a MANDY doll, which was my very first doll. I was so astonished, and when I was asked for an encore I literally forgot the words. That was the most memorable moment in my life.

What is your environmental advocacy?

My environmental advocacy is harsher laws and penalties for persons engaging in illegal environmental activities with sustained enforcement of such laws. Further, as Miss EARTH T&T, I would like to be a role model as an environmental activist and lead by the example - following on the footsteps of those in authority in my country and channel such in sensitizing my people further to accept and make their "carbon footprint".

Nelly Alexandra Kamwelu is a Tanzanian model and beauty queen who won the Miss Universe Tanzania and Miss Southern Africa International titles in 2011.She represented her country in Miss Universe 2011 in Sao Paolo,Brazil, Miss International 2011 in China and is currently representing her country in Miss Earth 2011 in Manila,Philippines.

Kamwelu was born to a Tanzanian father and a Russian Greek Mother. She started participating in regional beauty contests in 2008 and finally ended up as a second runner up in Miss Ilala 2008 after which she was able to participate in Miss Tanzania the same year but was unplaced.

Nelly has also featured in Music Videos of Tanzanian Musicians and also recorded a song Say it to my face before her departure for Miss Universe 2011. The song was released on Youtube while she was participating in the beauty contest in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

She represented Tanzania in Miss International 2011 which was held in China but was unplaced.

Kamwelu is currently competing in Miss Earth 2011 in Manila, Philippines.

She is her country's first and so far remains the only beauty queen who has competed in three Grand Slam Pageants (Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Earth) in a single year.

Kamwelu won the fifth edition of the Miss Universe Tanzania pageant in May 2011. and represented her country in the Miss Universe 2011 pageant in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Although she didn't place but grabbed attention with her National Costume which received a lot of positive reaction.

Kamwelu was sponsored by the Tanzania Tourist Board to represent the country in Miss Southern Africa International pageant which was held in Ndola, Zambia as a part of Zambia International Trade Fair. She won the main title by defeating six other contestants and also won the best Evening Gown award.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?
I am proud of my country because it is beautiful, clean, environmentally conscious and well-run. Cleanliness is taught to us at a very young age, whenever or wherever we go, either in the cities or in the country, we learnt to take our rubbish back home with us if there are no bins available. Honesty is something that is bred into everyone, e.g. we have small stands or displays which are placed on the outskirts of many country villages, selling either bunches of cut flowers, roses, fresh fruit juice, vegetables or eggs etc. There is also a small box where one can put the money into for the produce – it is very rare that someone will 'forget' to pay.

Environmental awareness: In Switzerland we have learned to separate waste for as long as I can remember. Also we learned in school how to be economical at home (e.g. turning off the water tap when brushing our teeth, turning the lights off when leaving a room etc.).

Switzerland has a unique political system and is the most stable democratic system in the world, which offers maximum participation to its people.

Describe your childhood/growing years.
I grew up in very large Patchwork Family. I have two brothers and two sisters from the two marriages of my parents. I have lovely childhood memories of my siblings and what we did together. We spent many hours outdoors with nature when we were all together. My mother is my best friend and has always been a great role model for me and I admire and appreciate her enthusiasm and patience with me. With my father, I could always do the craziest things (e.g. we would go cave hunting or spend the night in a tent in the woods and explore nature). I am totally family-oriented and my family means everything to me.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years? ?
During this time, I learned a lot through my experiences, and that changed my life for the better –learning how to care for someone, gaining wisdom and making me to the person I am today.

What is your environmental advocacy?
During this year as Miss Earth Switzerland, I am working together with the organization 'My Blue Planet'. They support many environmental protection projects (e.g. promoting the use of public transport, or making people aware of solar electricity, ensuring a clean earth.)

BIOGRAPHY:

Renate Veronica Cerljen (born March 26, 1988 in Staffanstorp, Sweden) is the first ever winner of the Miss Universe Sweden pageant which she won on June 6, 2009. Cerljen represented Sweden at the Miss Universe 2009 pageant on the Bahamas on August 23, 2009 and placed in the Top 15.

Renate was the first non-winner of the Miss Sweden pageant since 1952 to represent Sweden at Miss Universe since Miss Sweden lost its rights to crown a contestant for Miss Universe earlier in 2009.

Cerljen was also the first delegate from Sweden at the international final since 2006 when Josephine Alhanko placed in the Top 20. Miss Universe 1984 winner Yvonne Ryding was among the judges in the final which crowned Cerljen as winner. By making the Top 15 Cerljen became Swedens 29th semifinalist at the Miss Universe pageant overall.

In May 2010 Cerljen placed fifth in the Miss Beauty of the World pageant in China. Cerljen was a judge at the Miss Sinergy competition for breast cancer in 2009 as well as 2010 which is an annual pageant made by the Sinergy group, held at the House of Sweden in Washington DC, USA.

Cerljen will represent Sweden in Miss Earth 2011 which will be taking place in Manila, Philippines on December 3.[4] She was chosen internally by the organization as Miss Earth Sweden 2011.

Cerljen has previously been an elite gymnast but had to quit four years ago because of an injury during training.

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?

I have two projects in mind. Firstly, to continue working internationally with "Healthy Kids Happy Kids Foundation" and the project "Our Earth – We Will", this includes the World's longest ecological hand-woven silk fabric that contains messages from global dignitaries in industry and politics. This project aims to raise awareness and educate the children about the importance of taking an action to fight against global warming. Keeping Mother Earth clean and green is vital in order to give our children the chance to lead a healthier,happier and altogether, a better life. Secondly, I have formed a project "ECO! Reduce, Reuse and Recycle with Renate Cerljen" which is a series of video posts about sustainable living, presented primarily to young people in Sweden at different social networks including my own personal website. This project aims to spread environmental knowledge in an attractive and fun way in order to make the subject more appealing and arouse awareness among Swedish youth.

What makes you proud of the country you are representing, and what can you promote about your country?

I am proud of the egalitarian spirit on which Sweden was built, providing equal opportunities for all with free and public healthcare, higher education and tolerance for both genders and all ethnicities. This gives us an open and prosperous society resorting to neither class nor creed. With half our members of parliament and many of our leaders of industry being women, we still do not consider ourselves "done" or "at the end of history" so to speak.

I am proud of Sweden being one of the healthiest countries in the world with high awareness of the connection between cleanliness and health with our vast programs of recycling, energy efficiency and sustainability. Our urban planning is centered on this way of thinking and has been for over a century, which can be noted by the close and easy access to nature even in our largest cities. Finally, as a sign of both our environmental awareness and sense of equality, all our major cities boast vast and reliable systems of public transportation. While others claim they are in the same boat, we literally are in the same wagon.

Describe your childhood/growing years.

I grew up on the countryside in southern Sweden, in a small town called Staffanstorp. My childhood was characterized by love and kindness, but also discipline given my early infatuation with Rhythmic Gymnastics. I started competing internationally at age 11 during a time when my priorities were training, friends and schoolwork. Being a very lively and joyous child in general, it came as no surprise to my friends and family that I had flair for performing on stage, acting and speaking in public. My experience in delivering performances to juries and audiences during my time as a gymnast left me with a high level of confidence, courage and a comfortably outgoing personality as a child.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

Most of the lessons I learned through my parents. At an early stage I was thought the importance of honesty, respect and high sense of moral, characteristics I try to practice in all my actions. I learned to maintain humble during successful moments and to stay strong when facing setbacks. Thanks to my competing years I taught to never give up, no matter the challenge I am facing. Everything is possible if you are determined and focused - practice makes perfect!

What is your most memorable moment?

I experienced my most memorable moment in India at an orphanage for physically challenged children. The genuine joy among the children upon our arrival and the bubbling happiness after receiving a teddy bear was larger than life. Their poor material conditions seemed to equip them with an appreciation for connecting with people, a quality I feel that we are slowly losing in the West. It also reminded me of the material things we take for granted.

What is your environmental advocacy?

Reduce, reuse and recycle.

I consider the formation of a sustainable system the main challenge ahead of us. By sustainable I mean an environmental system that accommodates the various needs and challenges of both developing and developed nations.

A sustainable lifestyle on a personal level concerning our daily behavior requires knowledge of the lifecycle of various materials, and how this lifecycle should be managed most effectively. By sticking to simple principles like reducing reckless consumption, reusing materials with long lifecycles and committing to recycle all of those recyclable materials, we could produce astonishing results. The practice of reusing certain materials is often overlooked but is probably the easiest way to minimize our carbon footprint.

It is easy to believe that governments and industry would be unwilling to implement sustainable strategies, but given the fact that industry is producing most of the sustainable technologies and governments are financing most of the education on sustainable living, there is simply no case left for cynicism. In addition, environmental activism has contributed to a cultural shift towards environmental awareness where today, no person can reasonably claim to be mildly informed without leading a sustainable lifestyle.

This is real progress on both personal and political level, and so my advocacy includes not only helpful principles but also hope that by highlighting what has been achieved so far, we can move forward with optimism for what lies ahead.
