Miss Ecuador, 23-year old Olga Alava, was crowned Miss Earth 2011 on December 3rd, during an event held at the University of the Philippines Theatre. Alava, who was crowned by last year’s winner Nicole Faria from India, is the first Miss Earth titleholder from her country.

Crowned Miss Earth-Air 2011 was Miss Brazil Driely Bennettone; Miss Earth-Water 2011 is Miss Philippines Athena Mae Imperial; and Miss Earth-Fire 2011 is Miss Venezuela, Caroline Medina.

Completing the top 8 were the contestants from Mexico, Crimea, Bosnia Herzegovina and Zimbabwe.

Among the top 16 semi finalists were beauties from Taiwan, Sweden, Paraguay, Thailand, Portugal, Japan, Ukraine and Slovenia.

85 delegates competed in the 11th edition of the Miss Earth competition.

Surprising was the early elimination of Misses India, Puerto Rico and Czech Republic, some of the major local favorites. Miss Taiwan, another top contender, had to settle for a top 16 spot, while the hometown girl, Miss Philippines, went all the way to reach a surprising 3rd place.

The new Miss Earth participated in Hispanic American Queen 2011 (Reina Hispanoamericana) earlier this year, in Bolivia, where she was the 2nd runner-up.

Venezuela placed in Miss Earth for the 7th consecutive year.
